HBO's president of programming Casey Bloys announced during his first presentation for the Television Critics Association fall previews that "Game of Thrones" will definitely end after the next two seasons. Bloys admitted that HBO would "take 10 seasons if we could," but show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have been adamant that eight seasons was the right number.
Bloys, speaking about the desires of runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, said to the media:
"Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do. Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more. I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show."
Bloys also confirmed that the show's delayed production of Season 7 will take "Game of Thrones" out of Emmy contention in 2017. The panel's "Game of Thrones" news wasn't all bleak, though.
A spin-off is absolutely not out of the question although Bloys says that it isn’t totally confirmed yet. "We've talked about it. I am certainly not opposed to it," he said. "There are no concrete plans for it at this point."
We can only hope some type of good spin-off is in the works, because right now, we just aren't ready for GOT to end!
