The Two-step verification though an optional feature when activated will add extra layer of security to your account. When you have two-step verification enabled, any attempt to verify your phone number on WhatsApp must be accompanied by the six-digit passcode that you created using this feature.

How to enable Two-Step verification in WhatsApp

Enabling the WhatsApp two-step verification, is as simple as going to your app Settings > Account > Two-step verification > Enable.

The feature will require you to optionally add your email address where upon request you will receive a link to disable two-step verification in case you ever forget your six-digit passcode, and also to help safeguard your account.

It is important to note that WhatsApp wont receive a link on your email to verify the email , so you are enjoined to ensure its accuracy to avoid locking you out of your WhatsApp account in the event you forget your recovery code .

Important: If you receive an email to disable two-step verification, but did not request this, do not click on the link. Someone could be attempting to verify your phone number on WhatsApp.
